I had the opportunity to listern to Jackie Hinkson at UWI last week and was simply stunned at his presentation titled “Masquerade”. His mural painted with oil on canvas depicts a historical view of Trinidad and Tobago ending in our current turbulent times. He started the painting in 2003. Because of its size he could only paint two pieces at any point in time yet the work flows as if painted all together in one massive studio. The presentation again identifies the need for a National Art gallery as large works like these are destined to end in the rubbish heap. The work is 8’7” tall and 150 ft long. Suggest you take the time to go up to UWI and view this outstanding piece of work hung on the exterior walls of the Alma Jordan Library.
